FSF: FSF stands for Free Software Foundation. The free software movement was started in 1983 by a computer scientist Richard M.Stallman. Free Software is the Foundation of a learning society- where the tools we all use are free to share, study and modify. TO provide the freedom for the user FSF has developed GNU operating system. GNU is the first operating system designed to give the user freedom to share, study and modify.

SWECHA:
Swecha foundation is the team which works on localising the GNU/Linux distribution. 'Swecha' is the OS completely in telugu language. Inspired by the Free Software philosophy we have come up with the idea of localising the operating system. We believe that the technology which is not in the reach of a common man is worthless. In order to fill this gap we thought of localising the operating system and started porting it in villages. We were very successful in this trial.

WHY FREE SOFTWARE? : Every one will get the doubt "why should we use the Free-Software?". And aslo they say that there are many other softwares also like proprietary softwares to use. But main difference is in proprietary softwares the user,we,are not given freedom whereas in free softwares the use is given more freedom to modify it according to his own requirement.

ADVANTAGES OF FREE SOFTWARE :

1) It is virus-free.

2) User is given more importance to share, study and modify.

3) Source code is always available.

4) We can distribute the softwares without any fear for free.

EXAMPLES OF FREE SOFTWARE ARE :

1) GNU/Linux operating system.

2) Mozzila web browser

3) Openoffice.

SWECHA WORKSHOP : This summer swecha foundation has conducted 30 days summer camp on free and open source tools.

1)Basic GNU/Linux commands.

2)Shell Scripting.

3)Python.

4)Drupal.

5)Latex.

6)Installation GNU/Linux(debian) operating system.

7)SDC principles.

8)GTK

The sessions are taken up by the developers of swecha, eswecha & activists of fsf. Workshops will be conducted at various colleges every year. I have attended the swecha-09 summer camp and felt very happy to be part of it. We had lots of fun over there. I have made many friends from various colleges. This year it was conducted in TRR college, patancheru. They charged us 2000/- rs for transportation and food. The workshop included theoretical and practical orientations.

CBTVGLUG : GLUG stands for GNU/Linux users group. This glug is formed by the students of Chilkur Balaji Institute Of Technology,Moinabad. We as members of CBTVGLUG encourages the use of free softwares. The main motto of our glug is to conduct the technical sessions on various free software technologies.

WHAT IS E-SWECHA: E-swecha is an operating system completely for the engineers by the engineers and to the engineers. E-swecha is again the project taken up by swecha. The project is healthy and will be released in less than a fortnight. Over 700 developers are participating in making of E-swecha.

WHO DEVELOPED E-SWECHA:The e-Swecha OS is not built by a software firm.. neither is it built by a few programmers.. it is a collaborative work of hundreds of engineering students in and around Hyderabad.
e-Swecha is a fruit of the tree of freedom sowed by
the Free Software Movement.
Crucial inputs from a team of academicians, most of them teaching in various engineering colleges has been a major contribution to the project.
Along with that, hundreds of free software communities and developers all around the world have helped in jumping over critical hurdles throughout the development of the project.

HOW WAS E-SWECHA DEVELOPED?: The GNU/Linux Operating system gives everyone the freedom to use, study, modify and distribute the software. This allowed the students to re-engineer the existing Operating System to the needs and requirements of the modern engineering student. By collaborating over the Internet and organizing themselves into different teams working on different modules, the Operating System was built with a tremendous show of team-work.
